Emotional Dysregulation can occur in a variety of settings and present in many ways. Life transitions such as job loss, mid-life, divorce, trauma and even the increased stress and distress of everyday challenges can manifest in behaviours that are not productive and may be hurtful to ourselves and those in our lives. Ups and downs, feeling overwhelmed, reactivity, and a lack of motivation can interfere with living a good life.  Sometimes we just need to tune up with new skills so we can perform at peak.

Karin is a registered psychologist; she has an MSc in Mental Health Counselling and an MPhil in Health Psychology. She has focused her studies on the science of the brain and is especially fascinated by the pesky fight-or-flight response (stress!) that can create so much of life’s drama.

The primary theoretical approach Karin uses is Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and in addition to individual adult sessions, she runs an online emotional regulation skills group with ongoing start dates (please see the attached brochure). Karin also uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and narrative therapies such as Guided Autobiography (GAB).

Karin has worked in both public health care and private practice across a variety of settings, including clinics specializing in the treatment of BPD, chronic pain and addictions. Treating military veterans (and their partners) is a specialization.
